Goodridge – Elwood Robert Tieman of Goodridge, died peacefully on June 16, 2018 at the Pioneer Care Center in Erskine, at the age of 80 years.
Funeral service will be held on Friday June 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral service in Thief River Falls. Burial will be held at Bethany Church Cemetery rural Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service on Friday.
Elwood Robert Tieman was born August 31, 1937 in Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls. He was the son of Wallace and Agnes (Anenson) Tieman. Elwood was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country schools in Kratka Township and Lincoln High School.
Elwood was united in marriage to Rhodella Tanem on October 29, 1955 in Goodridge. The couple enjoyed 59 years of marriage and made their home in Kratka Township, Pennington County. To their union two children were born: Susan and Curtis. Elwood loved his family and the land.
Elwood and Rhodella had a good life together. Through the years, they attended to Susie’s special needs and those of other family members. They enjoyed attending their granddaughter’s school and 4-H activities. They traveled back and forth to McAllen, TX, in the winter months to be with Wallace and Agnes and their many friends.
Elwood and Rhodella enjoyed many shows at the Shooting Star and the State Fair, and visited with family and friends at birthday parties and neighborhood gatherings. The Tiemans were members of Bethany Lutheran, where they served in various roles, including mowing and keeping up the churchyard and cemetery for many summers.
Elwood’s life revolved around his family and the land that he farmed all his life. Other than the time he worked at Maynard Steel, Milwaukee, WI, in the 1950’s, Elwood farmed the Tieman land in Kratka and Cloverleaf Townships, Pennington County with Wallace, Agnes, and Curtis. He started farming on his own as a teenager. He grew small grains (oats, wheat, barley, flax) and raised cattle and pigs. Combining was his favorite part of farming, even when the harvest season was late and he had to have his Thanksgiving dinner in the field.
When Elwood wasn’t working in the fields, he liked to drive around the township, checking the crops and visiting his family and neighbors. He had breakfast regularly with Wallace and Agnes and he made frequent stops to see Uncle Orin and neighbor Donald. He deer hunted and fished Lake of the Woods many times with Uncle Orin and his neighbors Harold, Bennie, and Carl.
Elwood went to auction sales and he made new friends wherever he went. He was a very good card player. He drove a Cadillac.
