Walter was born February 28, 1935 to Myrtle (Skime) and Alrik John Lund, at home, in Marshall County. After completing his education, he joined the National Guard. Later he enlisted in the Air Force for a four-year term. His duty there was aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged January 23, 1959. He was proud of his membership in the American Legion for 50 years.
Walter returned to Thief River Falls where he was employed by Hartz Wholesale grocery chain in the billing department, retiring after 32 years.
Walter and Dione Moe were married December 14, 1957 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Roseau County. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with immediate family.
After retiring they moved to the Brainerd area where they have enjoyed living for the past 25 years. Owning a camper and spending time at a lake became their summer pastime.
Walt enjoyed hunting, fishing, anything he could do outdoors and spectator sports on TV from his easy chair. As for exercising, dancing was his favorite. He was also a handyman, tackling any challenge that came his way. His biggest project was working side by side with his brother-in-law Don, building Don’s cabin from the foundation up. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor.
Walter was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed the church “family” at Trinity Lutheran, where he was a member since 1994. He also attended the Friday morning Men’s Bible Study when able.
Walt is deeply missed by wife Dione, daughter Shelly (Joel) Moryn, son Myles (Tammy), daughter Brenda Wallace; grandchildren Nick (Jaslyn) and Jesse Moryn, Ericka (Jon) Severson and Christine Lund, Janie (Mike) McCulley; great grandchildren Bennett Moryn, Isaac and Nora Severson, Brayden, Emmitt and Linley McCulley; sisters Mavis Offerdahl and Eileen VeVea; brother Harvey (Lillian) and many nieces and nephews.
