Arvid B. Wedul, 81

Lake City – Arvid “Louie” Bruce Wedul passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018, in the Mayo Clinic Care Center in Lake City.
Arvid was born on March 17, 1937, in Hazel, the 4th of 5 boys. His family moved from Hazel to Thief River Falls when he was in the third grade; he graduated from Lincoln High School there.
Arvid received a BS degree in Civil Engineering from what is now North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, where he belonged to the SAE fraternity; a BS in education from Bemidji State; and a Masters in Math and Physics from the University of Wyoming.
Arvid drove semi’s for his brother Maynard with the Wedul Truck Line; he worked as a Civil Engineer in San Bernardino, CA; taught math and science at Clarissa High School, and St. Paul Park Junior High School. He hired on with IBM in 1967 in Denver, moved to Billings in 1973, and retired from IBM after 30 years.
On January 4, 2015, Arvid walked into the ER in Billings and promptly passed out on the table. He was immediately intubated and remained on a ventilator until he died, except for a while when he could be off for a few hours at a time. In March of 2015 he was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Since there were no facilities for a person on a ventilator in Billings, and not enough nurses for the care he needed, he was moved to the Mayo Clinic Care Center in Lake City, on April 30, 2015. His health improved there for quite a while before plateauing and then finally declining.
Arvid helped a lot of people with his dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous for over 33 years.
Arvid is survived by his wife of 46 years Exel (Ekkie) (Weinman) Wedul, Billings, MT (married July 15, 1972); his 3 children Jeff (Hope) Wedul of Bismarck, ND; Danny Wedul of Helena, MT; and Lynne Wedul of Billings, MT; and 3 grandchildren Hudson, Walker, and Jack Wedul of Bismarck. His 4 brothers: Otto (Audrey) of Sun City West, AZ; Maynard (Rosie) of Lake City; Kenneth (Kathleen) of Seal Beach, CA; and Glenn of Thief River Falls.
Arvid was preceded in death by his parents Arnt and Berit Wedul.
