The Thief River Falls girls tennis team started the 2025 season off with a pair of wins in a triangular meet held Friday, Aug. 15 at Pequot Lakes High School.
The Prowlers began their day with a 4-3 win over Osakis. The Prowlers leaned on their doubles players in the win over the Silverstreaks. Samantha Rodahl and Raya Dahlin defeated Maddi Bouldin and Matay Moore of Osakis 6-2, 6-4 in the number one spot. Olivia Schuster and Jaclyn Novak rallied from a 6-1 first set loss to tie the match with a 7-5 win in set two and they claimed the match with a 10-6 win in the third-set tiebreak. Making it clean sweep of doubles matches for the Prowlers was the team of Mackenzie Lee and Kaitlyn Jahn with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Oaskis’ duo of Alexis Bruder and Jena Nelson.
The Silverstreaks took three of four matches on the singles side. Section 6A runner-up Leah Maddock defeated Section 8A champion Braylee Wienen 6-2, 6-1 in a battle of 2024 state qualifiers.
At two singles, Osakis’ Bella Weisser rallied after dropping the first set 6-4, to claim the second and third sets by scores of 7-5 and 10-6 to defeat Piper Greene.
The Silverstreaks got win number three in the four singles spot, with Faith Schmitbauer defeating Ava Niebuhr 6-1, 6-4.
The Prowlers’ lone win on the singles side was enough to clinch the dual meet win, as Tegan Pray defeated Ava Drevlow in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The Prowlers dominated their second dual with a 7-0 shutout win over the host Patroits. Six of the seven matches are decided in straight sets.
Picking up singles wins for the Prowlers were Wienen, 6-1, 6-0 over Nikki Crocker; Greene was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Emme Sullivan in the number two singles spot; Pray defeated Claire Oseland 4-,6, 6-2, 10-8 in the three singles spot; and Niebuhr defeated Sadie McGuire 6-4, 6-2 in the four singles spot.
Winning doubles matches for the Prowlers were Rodahl/Dahlin over Sierra Larson/Francine Ganley, 7-6, 6-3; Schuster/novak over Bailey Westerman/Sophia Flategraff 6-4, 6-1; and Lee/Jahn over Keira Strong/Mairin Kinnedy 6-0, 6-2.
The Thief River Falls girls tennis team is back in action this week with a pair of competitions. The Prowlers head to Bemidji Wednesday for a triangular against Alexandria Area and the host Lumberjacks, with action starting at 12:30 p.m.
On Thursday, the Prowlers head to Roseau to face the section rival Roseau in a single dual beginning at 10 a.m.
