Thief River Falls tallied three separate three-run innings in a 9-2 softball road win over Section 8AA rival East Grand Forks Thursday night.
The Prowlers broke a scoreless tie with three runs without the aid of a hit in the top of the fourth inning. They added three runs on two hits to take a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning; and they answered a score by the Green Wave in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs on two hits in the sixth inning.
The Green Wave plated one more run in the bottom of the sixth to conclude the scoring with the Prowlers holding on for the 9-2 win.
Piper Greene and Grace Gonzales scored two runs apiece, with Braylee Wienen, Mikaleena Berner and Betsy Geiser also scoring runs. Greene, Ellie McDermott and Gonzales each finished with two hits. RBI leaders for the Prowlers were Bree Poissant and Skye Peters with two each.
Bernier went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hitts with three walks and a career-high 13 strikeouts.
Emmy Robles took the loss for the Green Wave, allowing nine runs, four of which were earned, on six hits over six innings of work. She walked four and struck out three Prowler hitters.
