Crookston – Kory John Kelly, of Crookston, died in mid-October of 2006, in the Beltrami Island State Forest of Lake of the Woods County, within the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area, near Fourtown. Kory had gone missing in the thickly forested land on October 16, during a grouse hunting trip and he was found by a search team on Friday morning, April 27, 2007. He was 38 years old at the time of his death.
The funeral service for Kory Kelly will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, with Rev. Randy Smith, officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service; and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be held at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
Kory was born in Crookston on April 11, 1968, the son of James and Janice (Johnson) Kelly. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, where he was a lifelong member and attended Crookston schools including Lincoln Elementary, Highland, and Central High School- graduating in 1988. Through the years of his young life, Kory was employed at Crookston’s J.R. Simplot Company; then doing building and bridge construction; and lastly working for New Flyer.
He treasured time spent with his two sons, Brady, age 16, and Casey, age 9; his nieces and nephew; and the children of his friends. Kory was passionate about fishing and hunting, especially with his boys, and looked forward with eager anticipation to those outings. He will be forever loved and remembered by those who, in his lifetime, called him dad, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin….or friend.
Kory leaves his two sons, Brady Langlois and Casey Kelly, both of Crookston; his parents, Jim and Jan Kelly of Crookston; his two brothers and sister, Darin Kelly and his fiancé, Lynnette Seaton, Tracey Sundeen and her husband, Jeff, and Brian Kelly and his wife, Marni, all of Crookston; his nieces and nephew, Terri (Aaron) Knott of Crookston, Jennifer Jopp of Thompson, ND, Mallorie Sundeen of Crookston, Brianna Kelly and Kory’s godson, Nathan Kelly, both of Crookston; his godmother, Donna (Don) Harbott of Thief River Falls and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Dorothy Kelly, and Norval and Gladys Johnson.
